Stamp 1 looks like Scott #67 (I think?). It gives it a canceled value of $45, but the physical condition is quite old and withered looking. I am wondering in general if this kind of condition is expected given that it is from 1876-1878 or if at the canceled price listed in Scott if the condition is still expected to be quite good even if the stamp is close to 150 years old? Stamp 2 is Scott B6 from 1917 (I think?). Scott gives it a canceled value of $58. Again, I am wondering if in its torn up condition anyone who for example collects stamps from France would even want it and if it would be worth anything close to its catalog value given the condition it is in? Stamp 3 I can't find in Scott. It looks a lot like some of the very early stamps, but I can't seem to find one which matches the design. Stamp 4 I have seen in Scott and there are overprints with it, but I can't find any overprints that look like this one. Any info on any of the above would be much appreciated as always. Cheers... Marc...

Speaking of France, is this one from France, Italy, or somewhere else? Cheers... Marc |

Stanley Gibbons: The Inini Archer is from ININI SG0002 (1932) T 02c archer [3m0].jpg Stamp 1 (referred to as "SAGE" types) SG0282 (1877) T0000 05c peace and commerce [0m6] green.jpg Stamp 3 SG0909 (1945) T0218 01f ceres [0m10] red.jpg Stamp 4 SG0678 (1940) T0061 50c on 90c peace [0m1] blue surcharge .jpg Stamp 2 I would gladly like to appear in a box of old stamps I don't have one. Otherwise I would suggest all stamps have no CV as they are damaged. That doesn't worry me, but it does to people who are paying for them :) |

Cheers Rod. Inni is a new one on me. I found it now in Scott. It is Stamp #2 from Inni. Surprisingly still minimal value.
I am not that good with SG, even though I got a copy from 2007, so the 4th French one is still hard for me to find. Maybe someone will be able to hit me with a Scott number for it :) |

There were a lot of low valued stamps from French colonies amongst others that were commonly used in the packet and approvals trade of the early 20th century. You can thanks the likes of Kenmore, Littleton Stamp and Coin Co, Jamestown Stamp Co. and many others for their spread to many of a child's early collection. I probably can dig through my boxes of excess glassines and hunt down one of the companies actual glassines that these and others came in - 3 values for 10 cents or something like that. |

Battlestamps - Are you referring to the Inni?
Rod - I see you edited your original post. I am still no good with SG I regret, but by giving me the year on Stamp #3 I was able to at least track it down in Scott. It is an A146 Type. Scott # 532 I believe. Minimal value. Cheers. Marc |

Yep, I hope it doesn't annoy you, but I thought the date should assist you, and us Gibbons collectors (the great unwashed) we need a voice too (squeak) :)

No problem Rod. I just didn't want you to waste too much time though. At this point when you provide SG numbers I look for a date to see if I can find it in Scott. So if you feel just like offering a date that is fine too. I don't mind using SG, but the digital copy I have is not that clear and thus not that easy to use. Eventually though I am going to want to try and obtain both Scott and SG numbers for some of my more valuable stamps whenever the time comes that I decide to sell them since many of them are from British Commonwealth countries and many people do reference them by SG numbers and not Scott as you do. So no need to change :) |

Stamp #2 is a French semipostal for the benefit of war orphans. "Back of the book" in Scott. |

Hi Daniel. Thanks. I had thought the same thing when I first looked at it, but you can see the one shown in Scott shows an "F" after the amount of the overprint, but on mine it just shows a number and no letter "F". So I thought it was not the same stamp. What do you think? Cheers. Marc |

The "F" is for franc, one franc. On 406 "50" is for 50 centimes. They coud have overprint 50c like on previous issue they print a little c next to the upper right of the numeral. Just notice that. Daniel |
