Piri Reis (1465-1554)

Piri Reis was an Ottoman navigator and cartographer.
He served in the Turkish navy during the reigns of Yavuz Selim and Suleiman the Magnificent.
In 1513 he made a map known as the Piri Reis map. Only half of the map has survived.
The map is now in the Imperial Library in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.

The Piri Reis map(s) is fascinating. Thanks for posting.

Now I must search for the hexagon stamps to add to my slow collection of them. Oh no!

Nice stamps and designed well. Sad to see the desert as it is so big and then on a map with a Peter's projection instead of Mercater's, even bigger.

Just re-visited this thread going great guns from 2008; that's 7 years! Scrolling back I see that that I posted some map stamps back in 2008. I'm sure I have some more, must check. Maps have always fascinated me but never got round to collecting them as a theme.
