I know alot of you buy albums to transfer stamps into your primary collections.

I'm wondering for those of you with ringed binders have you ever just page swapped instead of removing the stamps?

I was thinking that's so lazy, but then I was looking at what I just bought and thought why chance damaging those nice stamps the if the page looks good and is the same as my other scott pages why not just swap them.

the time it takes to break down the books and put them back together is actually shorter then the stamp transfers, and risk of damage.

however I assume this will happen much less as my collection grows the advantage of swapping pages will decrease based as my collection size. my original reason for not doing this was I wanted nice new hinges on all my stamps so I didn't have to chase the ones that were falling out.

so have you done this, pros, cons, tips, warning, confessions???

Hi Edwin,

I have never page swapped but that doesn't mean I wouldn't if the circumstances were right. I see no reason not to. Every thing in stamp collecting is your own personal preference. If you like what you have, that's all that counts.

If it looked as good as it would after you did all the work, I would say go for it. I will do the same thing if the chance comes up.

I have had this thought as well - but to take it a step further, I have several pages I have acquired from dissimilar albums that I slip into my three ring binders. For example, if I get a great looking Scott page already completed I have put in with my Mystic album pages. Now, I may actually leave both pages in place and would never toss my main album page, but if they look good - why not intermix them.

I also have started an album filled with nice looking fully completed bargain pages I have gotten at stamp shows and sometimes if they are larger than 81/2 by 11 I cut them down to fit. I put all my pages inside archive sheet protectors anyway so they have a standard look and feel to them anyway.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) we collectors reap most of the benefits of a good-looking collection, all neatly done up in albums.

Because we can't leave the albums or what every means used to display our stamps, open or on display for anybody who visits us to see......we are the main people to see what we have.

Therefore, whatever floats your boat applies.

It is really a shame we can't be more open about what we have in those big books stored away....but, with the threat of a break-in or damage by fire, flood or whatever, we're stuck with our situation.
