I'm mainly a US collector but am working my way through a number of WW stamps that I've kept in envelopes for several decades.

I've come across a number of GB stamps that are still on paper (heavy brown) and am wondering if there is anything I need to be aware of when soaking GB stamps off-paper.

As with any Miniature Sheets, Blocks or other multiples, do it slowly and carefully. Many have a tendency to come apart at the perf's. Don't rush it!

I plonk these types face up and float them
on a bowl of cold water, let the water soak through from the back
and just wait till they separate of their own accord.
A very gentle wave in the water to remove gum
and lift with the palm.
Pat dry with a clean tea towel, place in a freezer bag sandwich
in the pages of an old book, they come out flat as a halibut.

Good luck.
