I bought this on impulse because I spotted it on the desk in the PO when I was in buying postage stamps. Its not my thing to collect mint/modern/panes. (is this a pane or a sheet, by the way?! I am so ignorant). So ultimately I'm not going to keep it.

I'm sure I'll get lots of different opinions, but that's what I'm looking for to help me decide what to do.
Should I split it? Keeping some blocks together with selvedge info which I can trade. Then I could use the middle stamps for postage, single stamp trades, and keep one for myself. If so, which way/s should I split?
Should I trade (or sell?) it intact?

Stampgal,

I'd like the top left block of 8 from the Festival inscription down to the Cylinder No. C1....if you have no use for it of course.
I can trade you whatever you collect [I hope] or can buy.
Also, if you are in no need for it, I would like the bottom corner pair right side with issue date.
No worries if you decide otherwise.

You were correct in the thread title, this is a pane, not a sheet. The block of six squares left side tells you where the pane is positioned within the sheet. If you want more info, I have the whole sheet layout in a Society magazine but am off out now so it will be later.

Stampgal,

Don't do it. That pane is a thing of beauty. One of the best looking stamps that GB has issued, IMHO. And, it can be categorized as a Machin. the first thing that came to my mind when I saw your pane was this small sheet from the US:

You don't think I should break this one up, do you?

But, now let me turn the queston round to you, if I may.

Please see this small Switzerland sheet of the 1953 Pro Juventute series,

I am thinking of breaking this up. I already have one of these sheets, so this is a dupe and I collect Switzerland tete beche and se-tenants and I was thinking of breaking this up just for the various combinations.

Should I break this one up?

Larry, I have absolutely no idea.

(Edit - but no, don't break up the first one!)
(I'm admitting total confusion on this one..!)

Hmnmm. Don't know how to explain what I want to say.

But, pure stamp collectors will see the individual stamps.

Block collectors will salivate over the corner blocks.

Pane/Sheet collectors will see the whole as a thing of beauty.

What do you see?

Hmm - what do I see?
-I see a beautiful pane of stamps, which I do appreciate, otherwise they would not have caught my eye to start with.
-I see some mint stamps which I don't collect but could swap for others I do collect.
-I see a nice GB issue which I do find pleasing, but can't decide whether its classic and giving a reverential nod to previous designs, or lazily using the same old images. (that's one for another discussion!).
-I see a quandary!

I see something that wont fit in my books... LOL...

I bet in a few years I will come to appreciate panes and panels more, I just don't currently have any means to store such things safely, so you ask what I see 2 stamps for my book, and a lot of postage for my bills er just kidding I mean to trade. ( I know the horror!)

however THANKS Londonbus1, I was wondering if I ever had to split this sort of thing where to do it what to save. I can now visualize what you were trying to save in a group.

Yes, you should break it up and send to me the centre block of 4 immediately.

Londonbus1...they would go well in my new Tete-Beche collection.

Here's a thought:

Put it in the closet for a year or ten, then have a peak and see what you see...
