Hi,
Do you know if a Penny Red with the same letter on each corner(4) is rare?
Thank you!

No, it is not really rare. But I can imagine some collector might like to specialize in getting that particular combination. |

I am not a GB Specialist. If I remember right each combination appears once per sheet. |

For the Penny Red with letters in all 4 corners, there will be 12 stamps out of the full sheet of 240 which will have all 4 letters the same. So all other things equal, that would be 5% of the stamps. |

Cdnum, it is certainly a fun stamp to have!
I also know some collectors who like to have a penny red that has their initials! |

Do you have scans? I used to collect GB QV, but since I discovered KGV.......
I'm still a very keen postmark collector though! |

If you can read "105" opposite the queen's nose you are away It appears in the mandrel on the RHS as well |

In the penny black, in the band of the diadem if you turn it upside down, one can read(very faintly) J H N O ( we all like to be remembered ) |

You have to turn the stamp on it's side to read the number. I have never heard the term mandrel used for stamps before. askphil.com does not explain it. I know you mean margin. Is the word mandrel a reference to machining (the margin looks like it has been machined to me anyway, or drawn with a machine)? Newbie to Penny Reds question. |
