OK. I did a search on the site and came up with nada, but this ain't exactly google-land.

For those of you who have double-sided album pages, do you recommend glassine interleave pages or not?

From what I've seen:

Pro's:
Does the job more or less

Con's
Cost
Expands albums - thus more binders
Heavier

I also imagine you wouldn't have to put one between EVERY page. No offense to anyone out there, but I'm not heavily into Asian countries, so I could probably skip those. Etc. Etc.

All thoughts welcome.

If you use hinges and not mounts...

I would strongly recommend using either glassine or philatelically archival clear (bulkier, more expensive, but very pretty) interleaving between double-sided pages where there are significant stamps.

The reason is simple -- once you get sufficient stamps hinged on the pages, you will eventually run into a problem with stamps on opposing pages "hooking" onto each other when you turn the pages, or even when opening/closing the album since the pages will rub against each other ever so slightly. If you don't notice the "hooking", you might end up with creased stamps or bent perfs or stamps that get pulled out of position.

It's less of a problem with mounts in terms of damage -- usually the mount gets damaged and not the stamp.

Just my observation.

I usually repunch the holes and recut my album pages, so I just use the interleaves from other collections I purchased. Also, Subway had both glassine/clear interleaves on clearance for Harris pages a couple years ago. They may still have some left. I don't know what album you are using. The Harris interleaves may not be wide enough t match your pages, but I think that is OK because the stamp spots on album pages don't go to the edge anyway. Harris albums pages tend to be a little taller than most, so you will need to use a paper cutter.

I do not have double sided pages, I collect US used only in Nationals, but I do have Scott glassine interleaving, I had recieved a few hundred in with some other junk and installed them, not sure if they add any value but I liked the way they looked, sooooo I bought some more. They realy don't add that much bulk to your albums unless your running real thick, I use 4 Nationals so I have some room. They are fragile though and will rip easily from the posts or rings if you are not careful I use 2 post and have only torn 2 loose in the last 5 years or so, and post binders are a major pain to replace a page in the middle.

khj...

Today's laser paper is acid free, ph neutral.. it is a inexpensive (cheap) way to protect pages where stamps face each other..

btw.. how are those stamps coming along? Did you forget? I haven't forgotten I owe you money.

I used to have 2-post Harris Statesman albums for my world collection (gone now). After a while with the pages loading up with stamps I encountered the problem khj mentioned. I bought glassine interleaves and found that the holes ripped out with my page turning so bought a little packet of hole reinforcers at a stationary store. Thickened things again but saved the pages.

Having multiple albums actually makes the handling of the albums and searching for stamps and mounting them easier and safer for the stamps, bless their little souls. Less weight when spread out.

I used glassine interleaves on my Harris Citation albums mainly to protect the hinged stamps on both sides of the page.
