Received these a little while ago. Soaked them to clean them up, left them in the drying book and forgot about them until now when I was looking for a good page in the book to place some newly soaked stamps to dry. .

I am not sure is telegraph stamps are listed in Scott's catalogue. In some they are, but again I am not sure. Have to check the library.

I have a catalogue from 1895 in France that has these listed in it but the last group is not, a colour change?, perhaps a bit newer than the catalogue I have.

As you can tell (I think) by the cancels, some of these have also seen postal duty. I think that you could use these along with postage stamps to pay for a special delivery service from the post office at the destination to the addressee.

I haven't done much research on these yet, but if anyone can point me in the right direction regards information I would appreciate it.

1871-88

1879 Grey and 1891 Brown

Unknown, different colours, last two different designs.

On DelCampe, when you go to the category Belgium, this is the picture used for the page header with Belgium postage stamps and telegraph stamps both on it:

I tend to think the 1f carmine might be the 1881 series, and the balance match the colors for the 1879 series.

For the numerals, I show the 5c gray as 1881 and the 5c orange brown as 1879.

If this completely conflicts with your information, I can double check this in another catalogue.

Collin

Oh Gosh! Do I maybe have something you guys don't?????

I've got the brown example (MNH) in Puszzler's first picture. Denomination is 50.

This was acquired from one of the 1970's approval comapanies and I type their decription of these stamps:

"The only hexogon shaped stamps to our knowledge were issued by Belgium from 1866 to 1898. These unusual stamps are not listed in the Scott's catalog but are listed in Michel's catalog of Germany. There are three or four of the issues that are not expesive and we offer a speciman of our collection so that you will have a representation in your collection." <End of Quoate>

I'll scan my stamp later today.

PA-
Would you say that you have the fifty-cent brown, or fifty-cent olive yellow?

Cjd - I remember seeing a poster affixed to the walls in the urinals when I was in the UK during the early 2000's.

So I will plagerize it here:

I have the curse of the drinking class - I actually have a job - 3rd shift - Vampire shift.

Today, my replacement has decided not to come in so I have to sit her and get double pay until the clown shows up.

Will scan when I get home.

This does pay for stamps :) :) :) :)

Cjd,
I am going by an old 1894 Maury (France) album / catalogue and it calls the 1881 5c issue 'as type 1879, dentele' which translates as serrated so I am confused by that. I have no other information.

The catalogue is missing info on the later issues. I think I should update. It has been 116 years now. Perhaps things have changed?

Prince,
It would be nice to see yours for the shade difference, if any. A MNH one would be sharp to see.

The Netherlands also issued hexagon-shaped telegraph stamps.

Bobgggg,
Nice link ! Thanks.

Philb,
Nice stamp. I shall have to come down there and sort out your software for scanning and editing and cropping and resolution, etc, etc. I wish I could see the stamp in higher resolution so we could see the details easily.

Here is a larger resolution scan from Delcampe but I still would like to see it in more detail. Perhaps I will have to buy some.

I can't add images. I'm assuming there is a server problem or something.

Ok. Here's what I was trying to upload the other day. No big deal, but it annoyed me that it didn't work.

Anyhoo. This came from one of the approval companies circa 1972/3 or so.
