Stamp designs are going to be sold to the highest bidder and our philatelic heritage becomes a billboard. It will be a sad day if I ever see Ronald McDonald or Wal-Mart on a stamp.

Ronald McDonald? Not on the stamp yet, but on this 1991 Canadian FDC cachet, and the logo in the cancel.

The same is happening now in Germany. Because the government has lower then 50 % of Post, it is allowed, that every company can make its own stamps. And European Union wants do the same in other countries. We were talking about that on our last meeting, so I don't remember all the details. But if it's gonna be true, than every small company will have its stamps. In this case, I think, it is not a good decision. Because if companies can make their stamps, so ordinary people can do! And it's the end of post, I would say.

It will be a sad day when the USPS succumbs to the mantra of privatization. Stamp collecting will be ruined for the new issues.

In Canada, there's the picture postage. You send a picture to Post Canada and they return to you personalized stamps. Of course you have to pay for that. I never seen a stamp like that on an envelope and I think very few use this service. The New Zealand stamps that Rod show the scans make me sick. I can't believe my eyes. Stamp collecting will be a mess if advertising on stamp spread around the world. Daniel

Perhaps I will post a pic of some Zazzle stamps given me for Christmas one year.

Is it coincidence that New Zealand was one of the first, if not the first, to go down this road once before, more than 100 years ago, albeit on the reverse?
