I don't normally buy used stamps from this era, but this one jumped out at me. I have other stamps with this cancellation. I would be grateful if someone could shed some light on when/where it was used. Cheers! Brian

That postmark was used in many locations nationwide. I have posted this before, but here are two examples of similar (but not exact) slogan cancels with the bi-plane (as in your example) and the more streamlined mono-plane (later example): Unfortunately, your example doesn't include the CDS portion of the postmark so it would be virtually impossible to identify the location where it was used. Interestingly, the list of Washington, DC postmarks suggests that the bi-plane slogan was used from 08/23/1928 through 10/16/1939, but as you can see from the illustration I posted, they were in use as late as 1941 in Philadelphia and (most likely) in other locations, too. |

The "Air Mail Saves Time" slogan cancel was used from 1924-1941. There are many different types of the "Air Mail Saves Time" slogan cancel many of which are differentiated based on tiny changes to the design or lettering. If you were able to find a resource regarding these slogan cancels you might be able to determine which type you have, and where it was used. |

The first place to contact is probably the Machine Cancel Society, since the introductory paragraph of the pdf file on the "Air Mail Saves Time" slogan cancel paper suggests that they are the only ones that have published material on this subject.
Of course, the previously provided link is on the American Philatelic Society website, so you may want to check there, too. |

There is no need to contact the study group.
In 2001 the Machine Cancel Society published a booklet on the subject. The author states that your cancel was used in Cincinnati from April 5, 1928 until October 19, 1929. As a rule most machine cancel collectors (I am one) do not get overly excited by an earlier or later usage. I am not familiar with the pdf files mentioned. |

Thank you for the updated info. I didn't think it would excite anyone but maybe just help add to their databank of these. That's all really. Saves me time so I'm happy. |

I always liked this one. An "Air Mail Saves Time", but the newer version. |

I'm adding to my earlier post, as I just found another "Air Mail Saves Time" Slogan Cancel from Philadelphia, PA (3). It appears to be the same as the center example (which makes sense), however, it was postmarked more than a month later on March 13, 1941. Does anyone have an example of an "Air Mail Saves Time" Slogan Cancel (with the bi-plane) that shows a later date than March 13, 1941? I'm curious because all I have read suggests that these slogan cancels went into 1941, but no one has suggested exactly what date they were discontinued from use. |

I'm re-visiting an old thread only because I just found this one -- from Seattle, Washington. I find it curious that the previously posted exhibits on these cancels make no mention of usage in Seattle. Is this a known city for use or could this be a relatively scarce example? |
