Thought some might find this #300 precancel interesting:

I found it interesting for the following reasons:

1. It's a relatively old issue (Scott #300) for a precancel.

2. The precancel overprint still has a very shiny ink appearance about it, probably because of the type of ink used on the precancel.

3. I find it unusual that the precancel reads vertical rather than horizontal (but maybe it was intentional because of the length of the town name?)

3. I uncovered it in an envelope of common Connecticut precancels, so it was just by accident that I came upon this item.

4. I did not recognize the town, so when I looked it up I found that the post office in that town ceased to exist in 1954, meaning that it is collectible as one of those examples from a "dead post office".

5. Finally, according to the info. I have it has to be either an LT-1 or LT-2. Can someone confirm which type this is?

This is an L-2 TS (the suffix meaning it's a typeset precancel). The PSS catalogue notes that there are variations in spacing between lines (and according to Hoover, variations in both spacing between lines and spacing between town & state) and variations of punctuation (the 1902 and 1908 series used slightly different forms of this precancel style). Hoover also says it comes with printing oriented both up and down. It's given a value of 50 cents in the PSS catalogue.
