Looking for somone who ownes a recent production of the Schaubek hingless album

sorry about the all CAPS, I cut and pasted the title...

I'm looking for close up pictures of the NEW SCHAUBEK: UNITED STATES SCOTT HINGELESS 1845-1934

I'd like to see what they really look like and how the stamp goes in/out and how well its protected, and displayed. its a pretty hefty price tag, at $249.00 but if I don't have to buy and cut mounts it may have its advantages. plus its a lifetime investment (I hope)

I've had mine for a few years, so it's not "NEW" but I suspect it is essentially the same as you describe.

The mounts are clear; I tried scanning a page, but it didn't work very well because apparently you can't scan clear

You can sort of see it in this photo ...

The mounts are attached to the page only along the top edge. The bottom half of the mount is not attached at all so you can lift the bottom half, insert your stamp upside-down gum facing you (as shown in the photo). When you release it looks great.

I've never had a mount come off the page and I've never had a stamp fall out of the mount.

All of the mounts in Volume 1 have a 'horizontal' split (like the one in the photo). In the later volumes, with some of the souvenir sheets, the slit is 'vertical' -- it helps prevent the sheets from bending when you turn the pages. Even with the vertical slit, I've never had one fall out of the mount.

My only caveat is more relevant to modern stamps than early one --- as with any pre-cut mount, if you have a stamp with selvage, it's not going to fit perfectly.

KirkS,

how is the binder it come in, they look a little cheezy they remind me of those plastic blue padded kitchen table covers.

THANK-YOU... that was perfect it was like you read my mind for all the little details that were bothering me.
I found it strange that AMOS wants like $249 but there are no usable pictures of the product. well one picture that you cant tell anything about the hinge...
BeeSee, too funny I almost spit my coffee on my keyboard.

I have a Lindner Album for Greenland. Believe me it's the best for me. But there is not much description. I think the price is good. Daniel

interesting so the Linder is like the old style photo album where the protective page peels back? is there an additional mount underneath, or is that something you add?
and are there #'s or pictures or block outline of the stamps or is it just a blank page.

they only seem to show finished pages. which always makes it hard to tell what you'll be working with.

In a Lindner album you insert the stamp in the protective page as you call it. The stamp has to be place or adjust in the pocket so it go over his spot- a black frame- when the plastic lay on the page. In the frame there is the color and the perforation. The stamp stay at their place when you lift the plastic page is lift. For me it's the best mountless system. But I bought my album (collection) on ebay. I didn't buy a brand new. Daniel

I wonder if they have the retro Diner checker-board style.

Edwin:

They're not leather; they are plastic. They have a little bit of "grain" or texture to them so they feel better than cheap plastic. The binders are padded a bit also to enhance the feel. The dust covers are indeed plastic over cardboard, no padding.

I've been lucky with mine so far. Obviously, I treat them carefully, but none of the plastic (binders or dust covers) has ever split or torn -- not even in the corners and seams/folds.
