I recently picked up this precancel on ebay. I know nothing about it, other than I liked it. I would appreciate any info on this precancel.

Saint Elmo is a suburb of sorts in Chattanooga. The double-oval design would lead me to think this was provisional pre-cancel (not officially sanctioned by the Post Office Department). |

Clarify: St Elmo was a town on the Georgia state line annexed to Chattanooga in 1929. It was a sub office of the larger PO. The is one of the many fancy cancels that was ordered and authorized by the local Postmaster, but not authorized by the PM General. |

Just curious if these sort of "fancy precancels" command any premium in terms of catalog value. I previously posted this one from Jackson, MI that is of similar design on the same issue stamp: |

The Saint Elmo fancy cancel has 2 sister precancels. The base is Chattanooga, TN the same design with 2 horizontal bar in the inner oval, valued at $1.50. The other is the Highland Park Station NE of downtown has the inscription the inner oval is so inscribed, valued at $10.00. |
