so, a week or so ago I posted about a #150 that I was buying. MNG
(never hinged). I had thought it might be a 209 in disguise. and about 10% of the value of a 150.

Well I was right and wrong, it wasn't a 150, it wasn't a 209..

the picture below should spell it out..

welcome to view my first 4 digit stamp.

this is the second time I have bought something that turned out to be better then it was advertised.. the first was the broken hat columbian that was sold as a regular one.

Daryl, this is really nice.

I also use Bill Weiss when I need a cert.

Thanks Butch,
I sent it to him to find out if it was a 150 or 187. I'm glad it came back the way it did.

Daryl,

Congratulations. I don't think that most online sellers take the time to confirm that what they think they are selling really is that item, especially when selling multiple items in a lot. Bidding on stamps like yours that could be something else (and hopefully better) is a lot like buying a lottery ticket--most of the time you lose but but every now and then you come out a winner. I've had a similar experience recently buying first issue revenues that have turned out to be printed on silk paper.

Nice find SV, nice colour. I don't collect early US (yet ), but I heard Bill Weiss has good rates, excellent knowledge and fast turn-around. He has been instrumental in identifying sellers of dubious material, mainly on ebay, on the Virtual Stamp Club board.

Just curious as to what it costs to get certification.

this one cost under 30.00.. APS would have cost me 30.00 plus 10% of the value of the stamp.

I met him at BALPEX a few months ago and I was quite impressed with him.

Bill does work for the APS as well. For what an APS cert costs, personally, I would just send it to the PF or maybe PSE on anything of value however. Congrats on the purchase, very well done!

And to think I was all tickled pink with the 3c 51 Orange Brown that I snagged in a lot of 4 covers for $15 :)
