How many members here are old enough to remember the assassination? I was at the University of Georgia and remember all life coming to a halt for 4 days. Everyone was glued to tv sets. I always have regretted not hopping in the car and driving to Washington to go through the line to view the casket. It was only a 14 hour drive and I was a college student and did wild and crazy things as a matter of normal. |

it is one those days you never forget. I was driving to work on the afternoon shift at "Ford" Oakville. The whole car pool was silent for the half hour drive to work. A sad day indeed and a sad commentory on the subsequent events. David |

I was 5 at the time. At first I was upset my cartoons were not,on that all 3 networks were running the funeral. But of course I watched, then I was intrigued with John-John's salute to his father as JKF body passed. Most Catholic family homes had 2 pictures hanging on their walls, JFK & the Pope. JFK's election for the Catholic minority was the first time that Catholics were finally integrated into the mainstream in the USA.
It was the end of innocence that would open the doors for mistrust of the government, previously reserved for those believing in the Roswell's alien incident, leading the turmoil of the later 60's.
We can always speculate as to what might have been, I sure it would have been better for many! |

I sometimes find it fascinating that many people would be worried about a Catholic president. Of course we haven't had one since then, so who knows? Should the occasion come to pass again, perhaps the same concerns would crop up. |

I was probably in the sixth grade living in Germany at the time and it was certainly a big deal there. Scandalous murder? Cubans or Soviets? CIA? I still don't buy the government answers. |

I had the honor of meeting JFK on my 9th birthday in 1962. The U.S. just seemed to stop on that horrible Nov. day. Today people often challenge JFK's morality but no one can challenge his leadership, his vision and his greatness. The world was forever change for us all. |

I was 3 at the time. I remember coming in from the backyard and my mother was standing in the livingroom looking down at the television. She was crying. I asked her what happened and she said, "They shot Kennedy." She sent me back outside. For days it just seemed that someone had died in my family. My father was a police officer in Baltimore and he knew what the route was for the train with Kennedy's ride back to D.C. We all piled in the car that day and my father drove to a place up under a bridge to watch the train go by. My mother and father got out and waited. I remember that when the train was coming down the track my father saluted as it went by. I could see the end of the casket from the end of the train and the soldiers standing guard. It was covered in the flag. My mother just cried for days.

I was working for the Department of Highways, as it wass called in those days, and remember that it was a rainy and foggy day. It was also one of those days that we were actually a way ahead of our working duties, i.e - sub plotting and paper work regarding the asphalt loads being put on the highway, so the crew I was with decided to take a short drive around some of the sideroads here.
During the drive, we had the radio on and first heard that there had been shots fired in Dallas but information was sketchy etc. We heard bits and pieces of information and the radio was in and out regarding the reception and the weather.
We realized the full impact of what was going on around 2 PM our time and it was all shock from there. I too will never forget that day.

I remember as if it happened yesterday. I came home early from high school because we were writing first term exams, turned the TV on and saw on the screen John Fitzgerald Kennedy 1917-1963 Within a few minutes Walter Cronkite came on and made his most famous announcement. The most stunning TV moment for me though was when I was watching that Sunday and saw Oswald get shot live as it happened. Those things one never forgets. |
