If you can scan them or take a photograph and post here, we can evaluate them for you.

Sounds like some nice US stamps from the late classical period (1930's-40's).

I agree with Edwin, go to your local Library and ask if they have a Scott Catalog of U.S. Stamps. If you want to buy a smaller version for home use, your local post office may have a copy of "The Postal Service Guide to US Stamps" which goes for around $20. Although not as detailed as Scott's, it will give you the basic information as to catalog number and value. Unfortunately, most of the stamps after 1940 command little premium over face value, because they were issued in such large quantities and are quite common today. There are exceptions, of course, but the catalog (or those here on this forum!) would be the resources to go to in order to sort all of that out.

Hi tomcatpl, welcome !

Do not forget that the cancellation on the stamp (if used) and the stamps condition (gum if any, color, rips, tears, thins, creases, holes, missing perforations peaks around the edges, centering of design, make a difference in the value of it. Catalogs show prices for a really nice copy of a stamp if you were to go out and buy one from a stamp store.

Sometimes the biggest value you can have from stamps is the enjoyment you get from learning and sharing and figuring them out. Oh, and if you had inherited them from someone and they had sentimental value.

Stamp collecting / pjilately philately (study of stamps) is a great hobby.
