Found these in family books. Had some questions on them. Already did the research of value but condition and colors are what I need to know.

1. I need to know what color this exactly is. (red rose? or pink)

2. Is this "dull red" or "orange brown"?

3. Can this be considered mint?

4. Could this be mint as well?

5. I thought the writing on this was neat. Not sure if it added any other value.

6. Some extras.

Thanks.

I'M only guessing that there are some who would / will object to the fact the MNH stamps are on your finger in the scan. ...Beyond that, we await more learned minds.

For colors, on the pink? I'd say no. there are also some current threads you can look at for color assistance.

First, welcome to SCF. The first stamp is rose. The second one is orange red from 1855 printing but it appears that only the left inner frameline has been recut, nice variety. The next 2 appear to be uncanceled. Do they still have gum on the back? The 3 cent green does not have a premium for manuscript cancel.

When you refer to gum I am assuming you mean the glue adhesive on the back. If so, yes it seems to still be there. There are no rips or tears.

As for the hands haha well I couldnt get a good shot of the stamps with the right lighting so I just held them up out of the sleeves.

Powershot SD1300 IS.
Just bought it for less than 100 dollars.
Intentions were for my coins and it just happened to work out for my stamps as well.

The third stamp, the 4c Grant, seems to have markings along the top perforations that may be from some sort of cancelling or not quite cancelling.

I love those old cancels in the colours other than black. I suppose that's why they are worth more, lots of folks think the same thing.

Arrrgh, I think I'm having a coronary from seeing stamps in contact with skin!

Please don't ever do that again! I'm surprised there isn't more howling. Sedate bunch we have here, lol. But seriously, you could already have set in motion the ruination of these stamps.

No matter how clean you think your hands are, there are always minute traces of oil that can transfer to the paper. This will promote the deterioration of the stamp. Moisture will also react with gum, and a mint stamp that has a finger print on the gum is worth far less.

I mean all this in the nicest possible way, I'd hate to see you ruin your collection. Please only handle stamps with stamp tongs. Especially the mint ones.

Welcome to the forum and don't be afraid to post more pics. We love pics here.
