This letter was supposed to go to Milford, MA c/o Arthur Maynard. Instead it got sent to Maynard, MA. The post office applied a "Missent to Maynard, MA" stamp. I have never seen a town specific stamp like that. Has anyone seen these?

Can't say I've seen too many, but if the PO thought it necessary to make up a stamp with that phrase, one can consider that it was a common occurrence.

Of course, the date of your cover predates the use of full ZIP codes, which would have likely eliminated the problem.
