I've always wondered about this cancel. There is 1/2 of a cancel on the back from Ohio. The rest of the cover is unremarkable. Thoughts?

Never saw that cancel before. Nice ones. Anyone able to date its use? Given the stamps shown, it must be 1870-1880, I'd imagine.

Could very well be as a date stamp did not accompany these cancels

I wish I could read the date on the back of mine, but the missing half of the OH cancel is the date half!

This cancel and in general "date free cancels" were used on 3rd class mail. Third class mail wasn't handled with the urgency as 1st class, thus dateless postmarks were commonly used to hide delays. The 3rd class rate for the late 1800's to the early 1900s was 1-cent per ounce.
