Having just gone through an assortment of Philadephia precancels, I came upon what appear to be 8 different types:

The first three were relatively easy (61, 257 and 247 respectively).

The second scan seem a bit harder. I think the first one is a Type 44; and the third possibly a type 205 (?) but I can't identify the others, which are probably L-types.

Would anyone care to assist in identifying these for me?

Thanks very much.

The first two on the bottom row are 44 and 230. The rest are all L listings, but unfortunately with 65 different ones listed, you have to know measurements between the towns, bars, lines, etc to pin it down exactly. The photos won't help.

Thanks for all of the information. Seems I have two opinions agreeing that the second stamp on the bottom row is a 230.

Before posting this, I looked at the example of the 230 and discounted it as being the stamp in question because the spacing between the bars looked wrong. Am I missing something or doesn't the spacing between bars mean anything in this instance?

As for the remaining three stamps on the bottom row, I have re-scanned them with a ruler and wonder if this could help more accurately identify them?

The rulers are useless. You need 2 measurements: Town in mm and the distance between the line/bar. Then we can go from there.

Sorry. Didn't know what measurements you needed. Let's try this based on the last three scans:

1st example (PHILADELPHIA) in upper case letters. "PHILADELPHIA" = 18mm (W); Space between bars = 13mm (H);
2nd example (2c Washington) in upper/lower case and period after "Pa.". City = 19mm (W); Space between bars = 14mm (H);
3rd example (3c Washington) in upper/lower case and no period after "Pa". City = 17mm (W); Space between bars = 13mm (H).

Does this help with the identification process?

Thanks. Great info. Hopefully, I won't have to go through Philadelphia precancels again for a good long time. I imagine it must be one of the more difficult cities to decipher given all of the L-types that were in use. Most of the other (smaller) cities and towns that I've gone through were relatively easy in comparison.
