I was wondering if anyone can suggest sites to aid in the identification of stamps both U.S. and foreign? From time to time there are variations that are not clearly identified in my Scott catalogue and need help to narrow down the right description and Scott #. If anyone can suggest site(s) I would greatly appreciate!

You came to the right place!

Once you get into varieties, then you really have to go to rather specific specialist sites. So you'd have to tell us which countries/areas in particular. For example, classic US, then one good site is www.1847usa.com. Unfortunately, Amos in all their manifest wisdom, had a lawyer issue a cease and desist order, so the site can no longer use Scott catalog numbers.

You can ask here, or you can post a request for stamp links for specific countries/times/areas and I'm sure members will be able to either answer or put up some useful links.

[EDIT: corrected typo in link (thanks, wt1!)]

I am a big fan of The swedish Tiger website for US. They have very large photos, useful links to articles on everything from forgeries to history of US stamps, and price guide showing highs, lows, and averages of US stamps sold online. Check it out!

khj suggested a good site, however, I think it was typoed. The correct link should be:

http://www.1847usa.com

Thank you, wt1. Not a case of fat fingers, just pure carelessness/stupidity.
