An oddity I found among some covers.

As best as I can tell, the engravings match the "Religious Freedom" theme and the stamp appears to be postmarked on the first day of issue.

The bottom line reads "Courtesy Haynes Trebor" and "The Salomons".

I came upon this reference to an article Haynes Trebor apparently wrote on the subject that year:

Quote:
Trebor, Haynes, ed. The Flushing Remonstrance (The Origin of Religious Freedom in America). Flushing: Bowne House Historical Society, 1957.

Not sure about the reference to "The Salomons" though.

Anyone care to elaborate?

The Salomons is the producer. Haynes might have commissioned The Salomons to produce the card for him. I would be interested in a 200+ DPI scan of the front (and back if anything present). Their first was #1072. It's neat that the machine cancel "miss-struck", resulting in minimal cover-up of the cachet in the stamp area.

I just opened the box where this card was stored and offer the following higher resolution scan of both the front and back:

Thanks! They were produced by Leba and William Salomon, with first begin #1072. With #1124, they started a new line - Mischa Max Cards, and this line ceased with #1342. I am unsure when the Salomon line ceased. For the issues I collect in that time frame, I don't have a sample image or item for #1097 (with Fayetteville, NC cancel) or #1230.

Actually, I do for #1097, but not #1230. That would lead me to believe the Salomon line ended with #1123.

Interesting. Never knew it was a cachetmaker's line...I was thinking along the lines that it was a custom piece for that particular issue. I'm learning something new!
