Does anyone recognize who the cachetmaker might be in this rather unusual looking cachet?

Looks to be almost "pen art". The black over red blotch at the bottom may be a clue as to the cachetmaker, but it is totally unreadable.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A very nice Virgil Crow cachet! They are printed. When Virgil passed away his daughter made a tribute website for his cachets. Unfortunately just the cachet portion was scanned, but very nice: http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.ance...er/index.htm

Thanks! That's a great link showing the various cachets made by this artist. (Now that I know what to look for, I'll have to check to see if I have any others.)

Here's an update: I found a total of (4) Virgil Crow cachets with the American Indian Plate Block (Scott 1364). Considering the link you provided suggests that he made no more than 20 or 30 of each cachet, it means there must be very few left on the market.

Likewise, your link also allowed me to uncover a Virgil Crow cachet for the Christmas 1968 stamp (Scott 1363) as shown below:

I'll have to keep looking out for others.

Awesome! They are hard to come by, as most don't know to identify them as Virgil Crow designs. If you run across them, I need one for #1908 and #1933a (combo). Matter of fact I could use the images of the others for my image database, but have to wait to request until I reach 50 posts. My image database (of ANY cachet) comprises of close +/- 80,000 FDC scans. I can generate color catalogues on the fly for any issue; more on that later. I'll update my profile to the issues that I collect.
