Just thought it a bit unusual to see two different types of First Day of Issue cancels for the same stamp. Is this unique or was it perhaps transitioning from an old cancelling machine to a newer one?
Hadn't noticed that before. In my image database for the issue, it's about 50% for each. Probably re-use of the cancelling machine from a previous issue. Quick look shows the first previous commemorative issue having the hyphens left/right of the slogan for Washington, DC was #1072 12/20/1955.
