Couple interesting covers . Obviously not Pres Jackson but possible heir? Note the land tax charges for that time frame must have been quite the extensive sizable properties. Also have cover sent to Register of the land Office in Wis so I'm guessing they tie together. Read ful wiki on pres Jackson and know adopted son was AJ Jr but everything points to the south and not north but quite a few years went by.

Really curious just how much $2059 in land tax would have covered in 1881. If it was farm land it must have been 1000's or 10's of thousand of acres. Whomever this Andrew Jackson was it is safe to assume he was very well off.

This may or may not help. According to the US Census, there was only one Andrew Jackson listed in Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Wisconsin in 1900. The family consisted of:

Andrew Jackson (head) b. Sept. 1840 was age 59 at time of 1900 Census (born in Connecticut)
Rebecca Jackson (wife) b. Dec. 1850 was age 49 at time of 1900 Census
Children: Carl b. 1869; Grace b. 1875, Reufus b. 1878.

Address in 1900 looks to be 107 Church Avenue, Oshkosh, WI.

From http://www.westegg.com/inflation/

What cost $2059 in 1881 would cost $45923.89 in 2010.

I found various Jacksons in WI that all seemed to be tied in with the newspaper business but WT your findings are great as oshkosh is the place. Still blown away at the amount charged for land tax and how much land that must have been for. Mr jackson must have beem quite well off to say the least.

Assuming the postal cards are unwatermarked, the first one enscribed "WRITE THE ADDRESS..." is a UX5; the second one enscribed "NOTHING BUT THE ADDRESS..." is a UX7. Catalog value as a used postal card is 45 cents and 40 cents respectively.

Now if you find that the first one has a watermark "USPOD" in monogram, that would make it a UX4 and the value rises substantially to $325. Of course, that variety is obviously quite scarce.

As it relates to the "Andrew Jackson" I found in the US Census Records, here's an excerpt. Of course, I have no way of knowing if it's the same Andrew Jackson on your postal cards, as that would require further research since it is a very common name. However, it is interesting that it is the only Andrew Jackson listed in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the year 1900.

I too have a few (2) of these but this one with the history and background makes it very desireable to someone like myself. Awesome what people can find out on here! Very impressive indeed!
