Another L-Type precancel, this time from Covington, Kentucky. Although this example is damaged, it is an unusual looking precancel with quite small lettering and the State name fully spelled out. Can anyone confirm the correct L-Type?

Detailed measurements are:

Distance between bars: 10 mm
Distance between top bar and city name: 3 mm
Distance between state name and bottom bar: 2 mm

I'm at work & don't have my guide with me. I will check when I get home if no one else answers your request.

Because the city and state are left justified (C over K), this is probably L-6 TS (Var 2). I can barely see the period after Kentucky on your example, but it's there. L-6 as listed has 4 footnotes, so any minor differences will pretty much fit into this category.

Thanks for the info, Frankie. The precancel seemed a bit unusual to me because of the right justified text (as you pointed out), the unusually small font, and the State name spelled out in full and not abbreviated. I can't say that I can see a period after "Kentucky" but it may just be a poor overprint.

Just came across another Covington, Kentucky precancel that looks similar (but not exact) to the previous post. Note that in this case, the city and state names are centered, there is more spacing between the city name (15mm long) and state name (12mm long). The space between bars look to be 11mm wide. And a period does follow the State name which reads "KENTUCKY." (with a period after the name).

Any idea which precancel variety this may represent?

It may be the L-6v1,
If you mean centered = balance, that is correct.
But if the city & state start at the same position then L-6v2.

Just checking: Even though the lettering is considerably taller and the width between bars is wider in the most recent scan, would it still be considered an L-6 v1?

Thanks.
