Mix Lot Of World Stamps

i scaned these so I just thought I would post as is enjoy. gerry

Hi Gerry. I haven't weighed in yet, but welcome. This is a very interesting mix. The purple at the bottom right corner of the last scan is the Orange Free State, with VRI overprint for the British occupation after the Boer War. About 1900. The OFS, along with other colonies like your Cape of Good Hope just to the left, were later joined together to form South Africa.
Also some nice early Australian colonies, and early Great Britain, including a couple of penny reds. And I believe the three King George V with the 1922 overprint in Gaelic are from Ireland.

OOOOH! I just noticed your Cape of Good Hope 4p blue triangle. Very nice. Hard to tell from the scan but it was issued any where from 1853 to 1864, depending on watermark, paper and type of printing.
They can fetch a good price. To determine if it has a watermark you'll need to remove it from the paper first, but wait! Have an expert look at it first, perhaps they can determine without removing the piece. It's kind of nice to have it on even a part of it's original envelope.
There's your wow factor.

i've been posting my collection over the past few days, I wanted to get my posts up and thought this was a good way to do it. so back to scanning more stamps to post so look out for lots more. lol

In the centre of the second page is a dark red stamp. Hard to see from the scan, but it looks like it could be a 1868 Italian States. Don't think it has a lot of value, but interesting none the less.

Also check the 1/2d Great Britain Bantams - They are from 1870 SG48/49 - Ideally you would like to find plate 9. The plate number can be found on either side of the stamp next to the line which bisects the 1/2d. You have a vertical pair on the third page and a single on the fourth page.

I also noticed a Orange Free State 1s (Fiscal stamp also authorised for postal use - 1882 - 1886). With a bit of a tidy up and presentation - you can have some great fun with identification.

Don't hesitate to ask me anything re South Africa, Pre-Union and Surrounding areas (Natal, Cape of Good Hope, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Union of South Africa). I am no expert but I do have some reference books. Great to have you on board.

Dog licensing was abolished in 1987. Prior to this dog licences were mandatory, but the requirement was widely ignored, with only about half of owners having one. The final rate for a dog licence was 37 pence, reduced from 37½p when the halfpenny was withdrawn in 1984. This figure was an exact conversion from 7/6 (seven shillings and sixpence) on decimalization in 1971. The revenue went to local authorities.

gerry, the stamps you display are interesting..yes many of them are faulty..the good news is you can replace them with better copies without going broke !!
