I guess we lose a lot of things as we age...it just dawned on me how much of the imagination that I had when working with stamps is gone...sometimes we go from daydreamer to technical without realizing it

It is nice to slowly mature as a stamp collector
and be fascinated by new ways of collecting.
There is always another stamp to get excited about.
It is a bit like a bottle of red wine maturing.

Isolated stamps may take a bit more to fire up the imagination again, but there's nothing like old covers for a combination of the technical and daydreaming.

I just picked up this cover

from Las Bela State, then in British India, now in Pakistan, to Karachi at some time around 1900. The technical side of the brain is itching to sit down and plate the stamps, since they have sheet margins on at least two sides - if I can ever track down my notes on Las Bela. The imaginative side contemplates the journey this cover must have taken, probably by camel for at least part of the way, from the wilds of Baluchistan down to the big city. It was probably only sent by a merchant ordering supplies, but it is a tangible connection with a rather exotic time and place.

Phil, as another retired person, I agree with your observation. There are times when I know I put something in a special place but can't remember where that special place is. I hate those senior moments. However we have lots of time on our hands to ferret out stuff we misplace. I wouldn't say we have lost our imagination, just temporarily misplaced it.

"I just mortgaged the inner city apartment for" ?

I just declined a stamp from Philb as it was $5
I am such a stinge!

I used to be highly technical when it came to looking at stamps. Now that I'm collecting DDR again (mainly for fun) I tend to look at the pictures and scenes more. I'm not sure if it's because I visited the former DDR back in those days or if it's because of the colors-etc in the stamps. Still, I enjoy them!
