Not that I'm against bicycling, but we already have more than a dozen US stamps and postal stationery items depicting this sport, why issue four (4) more stamps in 2012? It seems to me there must be a list a mile long of people and places and things that get rejected for stamps all the time, so why is bicycling so special?

Because a Federal Grand Jury is reviewing why the USPS sunk $32 million into Lance Armstrong's team --- and they're still trying to live down the bad publicity.

I never thought of that ... but I suppose you're right! Now if we were to put ourselves in the shoes of the USPS officials who make these decisions (yikes!) common sense would dictate that you don't remind the public of past bad publicity but it is better to move on to other things.

But then, common sense didn't deter the USPS from closing philatelic offices, or printing numerous versions of the same stamp only to confound collectors, or to close post offices all around the country, or ...
