I know the question of which Vario pages to use has been discussed before but I wanted to raise a fairly specific point about using Vario pages. If I use a six row page most stamps are completely protected - that sounds good. But if I use an eight row page a little of each stamp probably extends over the top of the row. It is much easier to move stamps around that have a piece sticking up to grab with tongs than to dig them out from a completely covered row. I wonder if I risk more damage if they are covered - of course if the page is a permanent layout it isn't so much an issue. Is covering the stamps better or not so good? Also, I put my Vario pages inside clear sheet protectors so the chance of "fall out" is pretty much non existent and the stamps hold their place well, even on 8-row pages.
well I been using the 7 row pages only because they are the ones that ordered first and they work out well except for the "vertical" designs which I have to lay on their side. If I order these pages again I will get 6 row or less as I like them to be completely covered. J.M.O.
Sounds as if you have a nice system there that I may adopt. Thank you.
I use vario sheets and like to also have my stamps fully covered - the sheets range from 1 pocket upwards depending on what I am collecting and have purchased
I also use the various size of vario and think it best to have the complete stamp covered. Once I have decided on an arrangement, I rarely must move the stamp. When stamp is sticking out, there is always the possibility of catching it on something. This includes when placing in or out of sheet protector. I always try to move from the middle towards the safer side.
My preference is the 6 row Vario pages and I don't want any part of the stamp to be protruding. I will sometimes use the 5 or 7 row pages if the stamps dictate but under no circumstances do I want any part of the stamp to be exposed.
I think one of the issues with protruding stamps is the possibility that the stamp will crease at the point that the stamp overlaps the higher row if the binder is overloaded, or stored flat (or worse, stored in a stack).
I try to have all my stamps covered. My problem is that if I have reused the pages and moved things around a lot, I have created little "bumps" in the clear film where I've put the tongs in to grab a stamp and have pushed against the film. Just need to be more careful, I suppose.
