Since joining SCF (which is a great site and probably will be here as long as I collect stamps) I noticed that everyone is talking about Scott numbers.
What would be the best way to get this mysterious Scott's catalog?

A local library might have some earlier and newer editions. In Europe, Michel and Yvert catalogs are more of a reference for the local stamps, I believe.

There's also ebay and Amazon.com. The shipping charges could be high if shipped from the US though.

Here are some US stamp lists and photos using Scott numbers:

Tere joelkuiv,

I can agree that shipping costs (and other fees, such as customs etc) to Europe are pretty much a kill factor. Few years back I ordered a copy of Scott Classic Specialized to Finland; the postage was nearly 50CA$ (the catalog itself cost only 20$).

Michel and Stanley Gibbons are the most popular stamp catalogs used by collectors in Northern Europe. Very few use Scott or Yvert; even AFA (a Danish based catalog publisher) has likely more users than Scott.

You can also consider getting the software (pdf) version of the Scott catalog; that will reduce the shipping costs considerably. You should be aware that the 2007 software catalog is the last year which does not require registration, and is also the last year in which the pages in the pdf can be directly printed (print function disabled in later years).

Also, be aware that pirated copies abound. So if you purchase the software, please confirm the seller is providing you with a licensed original and not an illegal copy.
