Hi to all

Is this what is known as a joint line pair.
It is one of my 8 cents buys.

Yes. A nice Scott #601 Coil Line Pair on a New York, NY Type 161 precancel!

Still worth a couple of bucks catalog value, which is a good deal for only an 8 cent investment.

The joint line looks unusual around the left of the perf holes. It looks kind of like a splice. Check the stamps to see if the left stamp is pasted over the right stamp or if the is brownish tan paper on the back between the stamps. If so it is a government splice which are uncommon.

Hi
thanks to all for the information and to I Love Stamps whose offer I shall decline.
It is my first ever joint line pair, kind of exciting for some-one who said they would never go back into stamp collecting.
Mind you in all the stamps I have sorted through I have only ever found two Harding Memorial stamps, both are per 11, but I still have to find a way to determine rotary press, although I believe the Rotary press stamps are wider or longer than the normals, not sure which dimension though.
Regards
Horamakhet

Line pairs can be a fun collection, especially the old ones. Here are a few of my line pairs from that series of stamps:

(...and, yes, the 5-cent Teddy Roosevelt stamp has a hinge showing in the perforations between the two stamps that I chose to leave be, as I didn't want to disturb the original gum.)
