Hi, I am SueStamps, been a member here for a couple months now and just love it here!

I have a question and searched around but wasn't sure if there is a place to ask questions? If so, please direct me to how to get to it.

Anyway, I'll go ahead and ask my questions here.

1. I stopped by the auctions section and want to know how does the seller get paid? Do most people request PayPal?

2. Do I have to have a certain amount of swaps first or have references? I have 100% positive feedback on both ebay and Listia plus I do have a few personal references regarding trades.

3. Please let me know where to go to post questions like this.

4. Any hints or tips regarding posting a new auction is appreciated. I know or I think, there is a 50 stamp minimum?

Thank you all so much!

Hi Sue

I'm no auction expert but I'll try to answer some of your questions until someone more experienced comes by.

The payment thing is somewhat flexible. Most sellers prefer paypal because it is easy. I have sent cash in small amounts at times. We are for the most part a very easy going group. You don't need to have any swaps to participate. I haven't sold anything yet but have bought lots.

I think as long we are honest about what we are offering, ( in my case sometimes I wouldn't know a bad stamp from a good.)you'll have no problems with auctions on this site. I have bought lot's of great stuff here. Good luck with yours.

Dianne

Hi,
the rules are, I believe, that you must have been a member for 14 days and have 50 posts to be able to buy/sell on the forum.

Most sellers on the forum take PayPal. You can always ask if they haven't made it clear in their auction.

The trading/buying/selling section of the forum is split up into auctions, fixed price sales, trades offered, etc. Have a browse around and decide which category you want to post in.

Any questions about how the forum works are generally best posted in the "Support and Testing" area, under "Stamp Community Support".

Good luck with your auctions!

Hi Sue:

As Stampgal said, you can put questions in the support areas. Or as a general rule, if you don't know where to ask, just post in the MAIN forum. Most "general" things end up there

You've more than met the 14/50 rules, so you should just jump in and get your feet wet.

Here are a couple things to consider:

1. If you have an item and you know you want $50 (or some set amount), list it in the SELL forum. If you want folks to bid, post it as an AUCTION

2. In your description, list what you know about the stamp(s).
3. Establish a specific end date/time within 7 days of your post. Some people use "SCF Time" since there are members in many time zones. SCF time is US-Eastern, by the way.
4. Post a good-quality scan of your stamp(s). Some bidders will want to see the back of the stamp also -- especially for more expensive stamps.
5. Specify what payments you will accept: PayPal, personal checks, etc.
6. Finally, be sure you address postage/shipping costs -- again, there are several international members here. It's OK to say, "buyer pays actual postage" for those far away from you.

Hope this helps,
Kirk

P.S. And this is just one of my personal observations -- update your SCF Profile so we can see if you're in USA or Egypt. It gives us an idea of what to expect in postage costs. For example, I can see below Dianne's name that she's in Canada, so I know a letter to her costs me 80 cents; Stampgal is in UK, so a letter to her is 98 cents.

Big thanks to Dianne Earl, stampgal & KirkS for the information. I have a few more questions, so I will make sure I start a new thread in the appropriate location under "Stamp Community Support".

I would like to try a stab at creating a Poll, but of course knowing me I have questions about that too LOL.

Thanks again for the great guidelines, and I have updated my profile to include my location.

Thanks much much!

Cool!

You're doing a great job Sue.

Posting a poll isn't too bad -- go to the right forum, then click New POLL instead of new post. You can type your message and question as usual, then the "form" shows you where to put your choices. After you Submit/Post your poll -- the board does all the real work, calculating, etc.
