I received an ebay lot in the mail, today, and am as delighted with the cover as I was the contents.

For perspective, this is what I purchased.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/14062268707....m1497.l2649

The Postage used on cover is:

Scott # 841, 2c coil line pair x2 pairs
Scott # 807a, 3c booklet pane 6
Scott # 367, 2c (1909 Lincoln stamp)
Scott A140 (type unchecked). 2c Washington

Additional post-1940 stamps also used, but not pictured.

All neatly canceled with red CDS cancellations. Unless the seller is an SCF member and aware of my collecting preferences, this was one hell of a nice gesture. He will definitely get my business again!

Brian

Great seller. The #367's CV is around $2 alone. Good luck with the A140!

Nice Franking, but the puzzling piece is that it's only Franked with .30¢ ? Is there another Stamp on the other side of the envelope ?

Upper, right corner has an additional .14 postage. I did not post a picture since it was post-1940.

I have also recieved many envelopes with "vintage" postage from sellers on ebay. I guess these sellers are deallers who have in stock sheets of less than modern stamps.

Wouldn't these sellers be better off selling the sheets than using them as postage?

So do I Rod! I've coveted that set since first laying eyes on them on another post here not long ago. And what a bargain.
I've often received shipments from ebay sellers with vintage stamps on the covers...sometimes even something I need.

James, Rod,

After the SCF auction, I had to go looking for the set. My timing was good because there were only two listings for the set at that time, and I got these for a song ...

Fermato,

I looked up the catalogue value of these stamps, and if in VF condition, there was roughly ~$15 in catalogue value. However, none of these are well centered, the 367 has a pulled perf and there is no way for me to know if they had original gum. At best, they were space fillers worth about $1.50 for the lot. If they didn't have gum, they were worth even less. Nevertheless, I still appreciated the gesture!

I just back into collecting and had the same pleasant surprise from the ebay sellers that I bought from. If nothing else it gives me some practice soaking stamps!
