Are old stamps reproduced? The reason why I ask is I have some older stamps. Specifically "postage due" that are used. I found a mint Postage Due stamp. When replacing the used with the mint I noticed I could see right through the mint. I sure cannot see through any of the used postage due stamps I have. Which leads me to wonder is this a counterfeit? or is a reproduction?
Chuck

It could also be a thinned stamp (damaged by being torn off of an envelope rather than soaked off). A picture may help us tell for sure.

wt1 Apparently you didn't catch the Mint part. I don't have a scanner so I cannot send any pictures. Mystic sent me the Mint stamp. Different kind of paper would make sense.
Thanks guys for your response.

If Mystic sent it then it's most likely authentic. They may be overpriced but reputable none-the-less. A camera photo will suffice too for any images you might want to share in the future. Also to the forum Charles!

The subject of this topics sure piqued my interest!

There are many copies of mint postage due stamps as well as used copies which were not cancelled, hence they look like mint stamps when removed from the cover - only they do not have gum. You did not indicate if the mint stamp was gummed or not, so what wt1 was alluding to is a possible reason why you can see through the stamp if it was a used, but uncancelled stamp that someone torn from a cover. This would result in a very thin stamp which looked mint, but was not.
Mystic is a very reputable stamp company, so I would guess that it is gummed.

ncbuckeye I'll check to see if it's gummed ASAP. Then I'll let everyone know. Right now I am cataloging duplicate stamps and I have a mess on my table.

ncbuckeye Yes it is gummed. I checked and I have five all postage due mint and gummed and thin like the one I was referring too. So apparently they are normal and the usued one wasn't. ????

Sometimes the gum will make the paper appear more transparent, particularly on old stamps having only paper fibers and no mineral fillers, also if the gum penetrates well and has a relatively high refractive index. However, the stamp would not be expected to be thin.
