Well, I didn't figure that those post service stamps would be worth much. Was curios as to what they were tho and what year they were in. Here are a few more that I would like to know what the Scott Number is and How to find out what the Scott catalog # is. I just want to learn is all from you experts. Any help would be appreciated. Image Insert: Image Insert: Image Insert: Image Insert: the four and more stamps here...LOL One other thing I would like to find out. Can anyone suggest a stamp catalog program that don't cost that much that I can use to catalog my stamps. I would need one for a beginner for sure where I could find out that the Scott Number is and hopefully the Value of each stamp. I figure I have a few stamps that has a value of at least $50 or maybe more tacked to them. Back in 1972 I was offered $350 for my whole stamp collection and he said he would take 1 stamp out of my collection and give me all the rest of the stamps back to me. He would not tell me which stamp he wanted in my collection tho. Back then I just let it pass and have been letting it past for quite some time. What got me started in being re-interested in stamps is a friend of mine was over the other day and he use to work at the post office when he was a kid of 19 yrs sweeping up floors there. His Father also worked there, doing what I don't know. He told me he Really believed that I had some Very Valuable stamps. At least to keep a Stamp Collector's interested for a while...LOL Got me to thinking that I had a lot of time and No Money on my hands so I thought I would catalog them and see just what I did have. When I brought these stamps ( most of them) off the Bid Board most of them were sold by Kids. So I figured that I may have run into a lucky one that was worth $$$big bucks. I ain't going to hold my breath tho. Just curious at this time. Depending on you Guys to set me stright and get me started in the right direction. Again Thanks for all the help 3flash

Hi Here is some information. I would be more than happy to provide you with Scott numbers and values once my catalogs arrive. Stamp 1: Montgomery Blair Issue; May 3, 1963 Blair was the US Postmaster General from 1861 to 1864. The stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of the First International Postal Conference (called by Blair) held in Paris in 1863. For related information see http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1537919Stamp 2 20c bright green showing a twin-motored transport plane, issued from 1941 to 1944 Stamp 3 50th Anniversary of Powered Flight, showing the first plane and a modern plane; issued on May 29, 1953 Stamp 4 Veterans of Foreign Wars Issue (75th Anniversary of Veterans of Spanish American and other Foreign Wars), issued on March 11, 1974 |

Hey, thanks for the info. that put me into the pre-kindergarden grade...LOL I don't have but about 200 maybe 250 to go....LOL here is 4 more that I am interested in knowing about. Funny I worked last night and you would think with 5000+ people that I work with none of them knew nor was interested in U.S. Stamps. I hope there are at least a dozen there that I just haven't talked to yet. Here's the other stamps: Image Insert: Image Insert: Image Insert: Image Insert: Image Insert: If you really want to make an old man happy then tell me I have a stamp above that is worth over 1 million bucks....LOL I hope I am not uploading too many stamps , it is just that I am in a really big hurry to find out all I can about stamp collecting. Thanks again. You guys are Great...to take someone that knows nothing about stamps and educate him. What program (if you do) use to catalog your stamps on your computer? I would be very interested to know. I ran across a "stamp manage" program that they want $59.95 for it. Then I ran across a program that is named "stamp2go" which is a freebie. Both programs are almost alike but the one that costs has a database (they claim) of 37,000 from 6 or 8 different countries. I only use or I should say have the U.S.A. stamps only. the "stamp2go" looks really good and has the ability to scan your stamps into their database. It comes with a Very few examples in the database. That looks like the only differences in the freebie and the one that cost $59.95! I know I will probable have to put out some bucks on a good program and I am depending on you guys to set me up with one if not the best stamp cataloger program you can come up with....Who knows I may even join a stamp club...LOL thanks again... 3flash |

You can also go to freestampcatalogue.com and look up your stamps. Remember that condition is very important--if it has been hinged previously, any stains or creases, centering is important, and if any perforations are missing or frayed, etc, etc. Stamp catalogs take into mind their overhead, but if you have the right stamp and someone wants it badly enough they will pay more for it-an example is to look on ebay. Thanks for posting! And welcome to the forum! Gussyboy1 |

Gussyboy: I really don't think I have any prior 1900 stamps in my collection. I May have tho...Not really sure at this point. All the stamps I have are Mint condition and have never been hinged with full glue untouched. As soon as I find out for sure I will let you know.
Now for you amitvyas03!
After going to the Hospital with a heart attack I just woke up from a deep sleep from what I read in your message! Shame on you , picking on your elders like that....LOL Thanks for the OTHER information tho....

One idea would be for you to go to your local Library. Most Library's have Scott Catalouges in their reference section to use. And, most will allow you to check out one or two volumns at a time to take home and use. Give it a shot....it's what I did before I could afford to buy my own set. |
