From Wikipedia
The Diet of Worms (German: Reichstag zu Worms) was a general assembly of the estates of the Holy Roman Emperor that took place in Worms, a small town on the Rhine river located in what is now Germany. It was conducted from January 28 to May 25, 1521, with Emperor Charles V presiding. Although other issues were dealt with at the Diet of Worms, it is most memorable for the Edict of Worms (Wormser Edikt), which addressed Martin Luther and the effects of the Protestant Reformation.
The previous year, Pope Leo X had issued the Papal bull Exsurge Domine, outlining forty-one purported errors found in Martin Luther's 95 theses and other writings related to or written by him. Luther was summoned by the emperor. Prince Frederick III, Elector of Saxony, obtained an agreement that if Luther appeared, he would be promised safe passage to and from the meeting. Such a guarantee was essential after the treatment of Jan Hus, who was tried and executed at the Council of Constance in 1415 despite a safe conduct pass.

Thinking back to high school history class, the Diet of Worms always sounded strange.
From a practical standpoint, it would seem that worms would make a very good diet. Earthworms, anyway. Would want to stay away from roundworms, hookworms and other parasitical genera. High in protein, low in fat, probably almost no carbohydrates unless you bread them. Pretty much organic since they tend not to thrive in soil laced with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. A veritable health food. Seems the Worm Diet should be right up there with Adkins.
Hey, fish like them! |

I'd eat a worm sandwich if I was hungry enough and had a bottle of good old Louisiana Hot Sauce for flavor. And you're right Modern - they are good protein! |

From my zoology course , I recall that Australia or NZ or one of those darkside countries have earthworms 1" thick and 1 meter long, that they gut ( easy to do with worms), stuff with shrimp and Barby them. Bandicoot ~True?

Bobgggg, thanks for clearing up the whole worm diet thing-I had all kinds of gross stuff pictured in my mind-YUK!--I think I'd rather swim in shark infested water--well maybe--than to eat worms. Those of you out there who know me know my fear of sharks! ha

Jim, I know of no one in Australia that eats earthworms. A friend of mine did eat one in high school to gross out a girl and hey, it worked. You may be thinking of the grub worms that are a very popular source of "bush tucker". Gussy if you want to swim with sharks this is a good place to do it and yes they will eat you. Each year we hear the reports of people in kayaks and such that have been circled and some times a bite taken from. We haven't had a loss of life for a couple of years, the last one I remember was a church minister having an early morning swim with his mates and coming out in knee deep water was attacked. That death was in 2000 but there are attacks with out death each year. |
