It is a shame someone had to play with that lower left corner...it was there for the cert; why couldn't they leave well enough alone? Still a pretty stamp. |

I would worry about that top row of perfs. It is highly unlikely that the margins would be that tight at top and bottom while at the same time having top perfs that look way too clean, round, and a bit too big. What about the horizontal crease and the thins? Daryl. You spent too much. Somebody has to tell you the truth! |

it has a clean cert. as far as reperfs go. That top "thin" isn't a thin but soiling. What horizontal crease are you talking about? there is a corner crease, that I can't see. But other than that. I don't see it. |

great looking stamp
Corner crease might be gone now that part of the bottom left corner is gone. |

Daryl, I see the cert doesn't mention a reperf but its a pretty old cert. I could be wrong but it is highly suspicious that the top and bottom are both tight, it usually doesn't happen that way. There are two thins and one is pretty bad IMO. The worst one is immediately below the hinge remnant and immediately left of where a hinge used to be. It is diagonal, quite long, and I would say pretty deep as it might be visible from the front at the back of Perry's head. The worst crease goes between the corner of Perry's eye to above his ear. |

I am going to talk to "CK" amd let him know that I am sending it for a new cert. and if it comes out differently than I will return it. If it comes out okay, then 380.00 is a good price. I talked to Bill W. he feels the same as you. thanks. |

I am no expert, but the stamp in the cert has the bottom left corner. This one doesn't. It is unlikely that since 1990 a owner abused the stamp. After all, it was already in the hands of a committed philatelist. I wonder if there is a switch. Reason I wonder is that the seller doesn't have a great reputation! |

yes the corner is missing. But that is okay. It is the same stamp as all the other corners and perfs are identical. I told them I was going to send it to Bill W for a new cert. and return it if it has more damage than mentioned on the old cert. We will see.

Hey Daryl- 2 things, both related---
Winston said that you paid too much and I'd agree-- you paid almost 17% of CV for a stamp that had more than a tiny fault. With faults, 10-15% is fair-- especially on the 1857-60 issues with their Perf 15.5's, at least IMHO.
My experience with Kenny Chen was when I purchased a #20 that had a vertical crease that he didn't mention- it was a straddle margin copy w/o great centering, but I assumed it was sound. (If you want to see the emails on that one, I'll send them to you privately)
So, I negotiated the price with him, to lower than my original, to a % range that I thought was fair. So that's my suggestion to you-- it sounds like to me, that you really like this stamp-- if it has great curb appeal (and it does!), why not make him 2 offers: 1. you send it back, 2. you keep it, and pay 5% less???
I've been wary of Chen ever since that purchase, and I've tried to stay away from him. I've made 3 purchases from him-- 2, I returned and 1 (the US #20), I kept. TO BE FAIR, HE HAS REFUNDED MY PURCHASE PRICE, NO ARGUMENTS, so I've only been out the shipping, and I've given my opinion on that, I think, on VSC, that I'm willing to be out the shipping to bottom feed, and make a find or two along the way.
Where I think he falls short is when he never describes a fault, and expects customers to unknowingly make a purchase off of an image only, and knows that only X% of buyers will return a stamp. Let the buyer beware.
Good luck, and Happy Holidays, my friend! Ray |

he already pointed out to me that it had a corner crease. I replied back and said, "you mean the Corner PERF crease, that is no longer there because it was removed or the appearance of a large crease in the stamp?" |
