I wondered if anyone knows anything at all about the error in the attached pic.

The scanned stamp is Scott #2112 Coil (Perf. 10 Vertically) issued in 1985.

As to the error, I assume you mean the top of the capitol dome that appears to be missing from the stamp. Unfortunately, it is not listed as a variety in the Scott Specialized Catalog, however, some EFO catalogs may list it as a minor "freak". As such, it probably commands a small premium in value, but I wouldn't imagine it would be worth all that much.

For whatever reason, this stamp has been the subject of numerous flaws in perforations, printing errors and color shifts and smears, many of which are offered on ebay or other auction sites typically for an asking price of a few dollars.

Someone who specializes in EFO's may be able to provide you with more information.
