This is my #78. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Well, okay, here it is:

Different color, but I do believe what every 78 has in common is they are off center

Very nice Otto! Is it hard to find this issue well centered? I been looking for awhile now and the one I bought was the best out of 5!

Ooooh. Very nice additions to your collection. I have some similar Franklins, but I can't tell which ones they are. The series #18-#24 all look similar to me. What I usually do is assume the one I have is the least expensive. LOL.

Of course, there's always hoping I caught a lucky break!

Well m advice is to scan them and post them here. There are folks on here that specialize in the early blue Franklin's! -Like Otto and Sinclaire. If anyone knows it would be them! Good luck friend.

And Thank You for the compliments!

Nice additions ILS.

Myself, I have an 86 - though with a small tear that the seller didn't disclose .

A small word of advice on your scans though - I would lower the sharpening level for your images as they look a little over-sharpened to me. Perhaps a little too much image compression as well. I would consider saving the images with perhaps a higher jpeg quality level.

Yeah understandable. I use a program called Picasa and usually have to adjust the "shadowing" as the original scan usually looks washed out from the ultra bright scanner light-bar. I'll be more vigilant in the future. in-fact I'll scan these again and see if I can do it right OK? Thank you VERY much for your tutelage! That's how I learn, and it's especially a treat for me learning from you 2 because I really look up to you guys! Thank you. -Jeff

Here is a scan I just done a few minutes ago. I done nothing to it but crop it. Is this scan better?

ILS, your 9 still looks like a 7 to me. Plating is the only way to tell for sure but this stamp is very difficult to plate.

I think I may be getting in the 7 boat with Winston. Here's the stamp-in-question sandwiched between a 9 and a 7. I didn't draw circles and arrows (and a paragraph on the back, to be used as evidence against us) as my prior comment points out what I'm looking at on the left end of the line just below the "N." On the 7, it's clearly a double line with inner line slightly heavier starting at that point. In the 9, the recutting is starting at that point, but it is just about overwhelming the gap between the lines--although the outer line is faintly there. The stamp in question is tending to look more like the 7 below it.

Thank you both Otto & Sinclair but, sadly even if it is a #7 it's most likely completely worthless just due to it's condition alone (has a crease in it) I would imagine. I'm really fascinated by the early blue Franklin's (like above) and the red/rose Washington's (like the #10) But, I am learning all I can about them. Thank you for the help and this thread is now in my bookmarks. I think for what I paid for it I got a deal if only for the informative post.

On another topic, you said "I didn't draw circles and arrows (and a paragraph on the back" reminded me of that scene in Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant when he was in court and officer "Obie" was proud of all his evidence against Arlo until he found out that the judge was blind...LOL
