(this is just an example of the stamp I'm speaking of--without a plate#)

Scott Catalogue lists this coil stamp with the blue "G" and a plate # of A4435 (a used single) valued in my SC 2006 edition as $225!
Sounds like it pays to watch for Plate#'s!

Thanks!

What other hobby offers so many ways to collect a simple object like a stamp. The variety of ways to collect stamps has to be among the highest of any collectible.

I like the G series and it is on my list to finish with MNH stamps. I find it a nice and even colorful series. If only I would of thought that way when they were in circulation but back then they were just a common boring stamp that I put on my envelopes.

And to think my wife thought I was nuts when I saved all those G's numbering into the hundreds. I might have to sort them a different way now it could be an interesting project for many evenings.

Here is a web site about plate numbers that you might find interesting.

You're totally right ,Tom. I was in a hurry and grabbed what came up first. Then I used a pic from ebay for the juke box stamp instead of going to the dungeon to scan and post my own presort juke box. Sorry folks! But you get the drift of looking for those PLATE NUMBER COIL STAMPS! Woo-Hoo!

Hello London.....

What you need is the Scott Specialized Catalogue of US Stamps & Covers. If you've never seen one you're in for a great surprise ! Even one a year or two old will give you all but the most recent infomation with out the high cost of a new edition.

I bought one from 2006 a few weeks ago for less than half the price of a new one. It has a more information on US stamps than you will ever need.

Thanks guys. Is the catalogue big and heavy ??
How much might an older second-hand one set me back.
I wouold only use it for US Flag stamps and wondering if it's worth a sizeable outlay.
Thoughts and/or advice would be appreciated.

I got a used 2007 Scott US specialized from Amazon for a really good price. Don't remember the exact price, but well under 50 dollars.

On a similar vein, I just priced the latest edition of Stanley Gibbons Great Britain Specialized (Victoria) and literally gasped. Over 85 dollars. Amazon doesn't have one. I sure hate to pay that much for a catalogue. However my copy of the specialized is positively ancient. Does anyone have any knowledge of a source for less expensive SG specialized?

I have a 2006 that I won here on the forum and it really suffices for my needs--any newer issues I just look them up on line or go to freestampcatalogue.com

Hello Londonbus1.....

The Specialized is about the size of any of the other Scott Cat's and covers a lot of info not found in any of the others. I've seen a number of them a year or two old sell on ebay for $30.00 or less. All of my posts that cite US info comes from my specialized.

rohumpy.....I've also seen SG's a year or two old selling on ebay......the killer is shipping from the UK......it's really getting high.....Just be glad you can order just the cat you need, not the whole darn set.
