Could you please tell me of these precancels. I find these a little harder to define than ordinary stamps. Thanks in advance.

I think this would do better if you posted it in the precancel discussion. I can't tell you anything about them, but I like the typestyle/ font on the 10˘ postage due. Edit: oops! I guess I need to read more carefully.

We do have precancel experts on the forum. Perhaps a more descriptive thread title such as, "Need help with Precancels" would grab their attention. |

As far as I can see this is already 'precancel' thread, so I'd expect someone interested in the subject, and knowledgeable too, to read it and tell me. |

These are all common varieties. The NH is a local printed type, OH is a local printed type with handstamp user dated control - hard to tell what user's initials, NY is a bureau printed style [during stamp production in wash DC], LA is a locally designed type done in N.O. Total value about 10 cents but fun to discuss and investigate. |

Thank you so much, Shasa, for the info. I am not so much interested in value as in where I should have looked to find what they are. Could you please comment on La. (is N.O. = New Orleans ?), and what it actually stands for. Also, I'd expect each precancel to fit neatly in to a stamp, while this one goes aside. |

New Orleans Louisiana. Some of the local precancels were printed haphazardly, carelessly. A collector would prefer an imprint that is 100% centered on the stamp. They are designed to fit completely on the stamp [in almost all cases]. When letters or lines are misplaced off the stamp they are usually discounted. |

Now I can see it more or less. Thanks a lot to Shasa and Wt1. Yet one question still remains : where shall I look for all the information concerning precencels? |
