Members here, like Bobgggg, are actively assisting young people, at a local stamp club in philately. We must support them. They are the future of the hobby. What do they need? They really do not need albums, glassines, nor tongs. Supplies are inexpensive, make good gifts, and are readily available.
What they really need are STAMPS. Lots of on and off paper stamps. Definitives, commems, love, Canadian, American, German, French... whatever.
HERE IS HOW YOU HELP:
1. Get a glassine the size of a No. 6 envelope, and mark it DONATION.
2. As you sort through your stamps, put the three 1938 Prexies and the 13¢ airmail stamp you already have, in the glassine.
3. You know that letter you got from a stamp trading buddy? The one I got had a nice 42¢ Frank Sinatra stamp, and an assortment of older U.S., all nicely cancelled. I clipped off Frank because my U.S. Study Group folks at the OPS may want it. But the others go in the donations glassine.
4. Those CTO's you got from the packet you purchased, all colourful with space and sports and animals... but you don't collect Poland and Rumania from the 1960's... go into the glassine.
5. You know that 8¢ American stamp you got on a letter, and it has a picture of Mr. ZIP in the margin? If you do not need it, a young collector, who is making a topical collection of Mr. ZIP (the official spokesman of the U.S.P.S.) would really like it.
6. And finally... if you have the urge, the odd postcard, cover, of FDC is always useful.
7. When you've filled the glassine, post it off to the folks supporting the Youth Programme at the school, Boy Scout Troop, Girl Guide Company, wherever. Send a wee note thanking them for Their efforts to promote the hobby. This little act can make a world of differrence in their youth club activities.
Got it?

Good

Now go get that glassine ready.
