They are scarce, but you can get some really nice proofs of revenue stamps for not too much money.
This 1871 $1 Green and Black Third Issue Proof (Scott R144P4) has been in my collection for about 10 years.

Newbie here, but what's a proof of revenue stamp? I'm going to guess they're different from proof coins, lol.

Revenue stamps are tax stamps, used to indicate that a tax has been paid. During the Civil War, all legal documents (including bank checks) and many other items required revenue stamps.

Proofs are trial printings of a stamp from the die or the plate using the final approved design of stamp.
Essays are trial printings of a stamp in a proposed design that was never used.
Linn's has a detailed explanation of essays and proofs.

These are very nice. Now this thread gives me two morw things to add to my wish list. Revenue stamps and that cool looking Lambo stamp from Italy that Amazon has for their Av. BTW Welcome to the group Amazon.
