Here's a cover from Admiral Richard E. Byrd's second Antarctic expedition
(1933-1935) postmarked Little America, Antarctica JAN 30, 1935 and
backstamped Little America Mail Received March 26, San Francisco.

The cover has an unfortunate stain. But it is a long trip, and you've got to
watch those penguins!

The line pattern across the admirals face were placed there by the
scanner, which tends to do that when half-tones are being scanned.

Although this cover has a stain ... It is very nice of course for its historical significance . An Arctic expedition in 1935 was quite an undertaking . By chance I met collectors who collect Arctic mail. Do you collect contemporary Arctic covers (mail)?

Interesting cover! On a cool historical item, you can accept a small fault and just enjoy it.

John, no I don't. But I had a strong interest in the Antarctic when in high school. I remember reading in Linn's or Western Stamp Collector about some type of Antarctic submarine exploration and sending off covers for cachets and postmarks from the various vessels involved using Scott 1128, the Arctic Exploration submarine stamp. I don't remember how many were sent (this was about 40 years ago) but I do remember not getting all of them back! Seems there must be one or two of them still around, but I haven't seen them lately or I would post one.
