Hi Hal,

Yes I know that. I have lot of problem to identify WM. I don't see it on US stamp. As GB WM are easy to see, US WM are not :-)

Thank you!

Sorry - I'm too old -- I never "assume." best way to ID is is after "wetting" with WM-solution, placing stamp face-down on black glass & looking at under strong light. No other way to do it, my friend. For some reason our people decided to make seeing watermarks difficult. And the older I get, the harder it gets for me! Sometimes, I wish I never specialized in the 3rd Bureau Issue.....

Wow thats the first Bio I read and that is quite a pedigree Sir Hal! Very nice to have you aboard and I am sure there are many sponges to absorb the water.
Cdnum- Can't help you with the 2 in question as I am fearful to jump in with Mr Washington or Mr Franklin for that matter.

Expense to the side for a moment (wm solution cost more anyway): I have much better luck with naphtha than I do with watermark solution. Use of a black tray/saucer/ashtray helps. With those I fond it not hard at all. Of course, naphtha may be what you are calling watermark solution...if so then please ignore!

* Naturally all safety warning go with the use of naphtha:
* Use in well ventilated area,
* Use only few drops,
* Avoid all heat sources,
* Avoid disposal of any rags saturated with naphtha until they are dry,
et cetera...

This is the Washington design No. A139. If it is a single line watermark it is a #375. If it is a double line watermark, it is a #332. (I'm assuming they are both perforated 12x12, and not on the "bluish paper"). As said above, Washington/Franklin watermarks are notoriously hard to identify, and cancellations make it even harder! So my friend and fellow board member, I wish you the best of luck, and Godspeed.
