They have a stately beauty, but my attraction to them is that they are endlessly fascinating for how they were designed, used, and experimented with. This comes across when you work with the essays and experimentals, prying into the many secrets they still hold. Those designs were in active use for about 20 years, which was longer than any other design series for that century. I am persuaded that this was primarily due to the artistic temperament and influence of one man above others.
