If either of those is a #234, then they are BOTH huge errors. Wrong color, wrong design, wrong denomination... k |

The excitement got to em. Scott #233a blue error. Good way to check is the blue is the same as the 1 cent Columbian. |

Sorry, couldn't resist the ribbing, since you had another thread with the same Scott number but different stamp! Take care, philb! k |

the paper on your "standard" one looks a bit toned or stained rather than white, so it makes the shade of that one look different than it would look on one with normal white paper, so it is hard to compare it to the one on the right |

The true blue error does not photograph well, but in person it is unmistakable. If you have to ask is it the 233a then you already know it is not. The 233a is unforgettable once seen. There is a deep ultramarine variety that is indeed also very rare and often mistaken for 233a. It is thought some of the stamps certified as 233a in the 1940's and 1950's are in fact deep ultramarine and not 233a. The deep ultramarine may be a transition between 233a and 233. It is scarce, but not given catalog mention or any extra value. Your stamp appears a rich ultramarine shade, but not deep ultramarine or 233a. |

I agree with Crouse27, once you see it you can't miss it. It's also not quite as scarce as the catalog value would tend to indicate; as with all Columbians it is a very popular stamp and the catalog reflects that. |

Hi Philb, keep looking you never know. Not all of them were accounted for so a discovery is still possible.
Hey if you could..l please edit your subject from 234 to 233 and 233a so it can be found later by others looking. The 234 is the 5 c brown Columbian. |
