Can you scan this at 600 dpi or higher resolution? I tried a couple things to clean the image up, but still can't see the imprint clearly.

The imprint is almost certainly a transfer of ink, or paper from something else. It might be from another 114, but I can't be certain. I can make out the letter 's', but the rest of the imprint is not so clear.

Cheers!

Brian

As you can see by the link I have posted, I specialize in 1869s as well - thus my interest in your post. If I were ever to reduce my collecting interests to one thing, it would be these!

Incidentally, my avatar is merely an image of a stamp I want more than any other ... combining my collecting interests in 1869s and Alaska. One of these days ...

Great Japanese chop cancellation! Have any of these on cover?

Out of curiosity, have you seen, or do you own this book?

I've never even seen one, let alone one for sale. I would LOVE to see a photograph!

I have nearly 400 114s, with nearly every color cancellation available (minus orange and yellow). This stamp has been an obsession of mine from the first time I saw it in a Scott catalogue more than 30 years ago!

Like the main character in the movie Conspiracy Theory, who buys the book "Catcher in the rye" every time he sees one, I feel compelled to buy 114s.

I have a single 113 with a Hiago cds, and that is the extent of my Japan cancellations.

The pencil writing on the back of the OP's stamp looks like a town name, perhaps ending in -bury or -burg. The blue imprint at UR looks like a setoff from the selvage of a damp sheet, i.e., the name of the printer, etc.
