I just came across a few stamps I've had for about 50 years. The conditions are bad but some of the varities are quite valuable. With my eyes it is really tough to distinguish colors of faded stamps. I especially don't know how to tell paper types. Is there anything I can do short of sending them in for expertizing?
These two are just a couple of the dozen or so old ones I've come across. Thanks in advance for any help.

I wish I could run across this kind of stuff! Not sure on the second one but the first is most likely a Scott #153 because I can't see a grill on it in that image. the second one could be a few different ones but I cant make out the exact color from the pic. Maybe you can? look at this link for reference if you want to try?

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like the early one could be a faded version of any of those in the first row. So hard to tell.

Does it look more greenish or blueish or is it grey?

I LOVE STAMPS, in hand the stamp kinda looks like the picture. Grayish without green or blue.

Your second stamp is one of two stamps - 70 or 78 - but the faded color makes it impossible for me to tell.

You mentioned wanting to send these off for expertizing, but I would advise against it. Although the catalogue value for these two items is high (in sound, very fine condition), they are both in really rough shape. Expertizing would cost more than the retail value.

As a pair, if posted on ebay, they might bring $10-$15.

Cheers!

Brian
